Vision 2020

Over the past couple of years, the Public Sector has experienced a considerable growth in staff numbers and consequently increased demand for government office space.

Brisbane’s property market has become extremely competitive with low vacancy rates and significant increase in rental rates for office space.

This has created significant challenges for some Departments to obtain space for additional staff.

The Department of Public Works is leading the way to the solution: Vision 2020 is a master plan for Government accommodation in Brisbane CBD and the metropolitan area.

The master plan is dependent on direct consultation with all Departments to better understand their perspective, growth forecasts, service delivery drivers and workforce management plans.

Vision 2020 aims to position government office space in the right place at the right time.

The master plan also requires the Department of Public Works to critically assess how suitable the government’s existing office accommodation portfolio will be to meet the future needs of Departments.

The preliminary outcomes for Vision 2020 are expected to be finalised in April 2007, from which further consultation with Departments is planned.
