Government Asset Management System (GAMS)

Government Asset Management System (GAMS) contains asset management guidelines which are primarily based on the principles of Strategic Asset Management and other guidelines and policies developed by Building Division, Department of Public Works (DPW). Building Division is responsible for providing policies, guidelines and advice to agencies on asset management and GAMS is a tool for providing agencies with online access to a consolidated set of best practice guidelines, with links to related policies and Department of Public Works publications. GAMS has been developed by the Department of Natural Resources and Mines (DNRM) with the co-operation of DPW and other agencies. For advice on the implementation of the guidelines and policies in GAMS, contact the Industry Policy Unit, Department of Public Works (E-mail: TengHee.Tan@publicworks.qld.gov.au).

Information databases to support the implementation of GAMS already exist although further development to implement an integrated environment for ease of access and use will continue to be pursued. QBIS is one of the databases that already exist and would be a major system to support the GAMS environment since it covers all government building assets.

GAMS Building Focus Group

Focus groups have been formed to review and contribute to the ongoing development of GAMS. The focus groups are aligned with the four major asset classes:

Building Division is responsible for the Building Focus Group (BFG). The BFG meets on a monthly basis and all agencies and interested Government-Owned Corporations (GOCs) are invited to attend.

The aim of the BFG is to provide a forum for users of GAMS and other building-related guidance and policy material to collectively contribute to the enhancement of best practice asset management within the Queensland public sector.
