Gold Coast Convention Centre nears upgrade.

Opened in 2004 after completion of stage one, the world class Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre is now about to receive its eagerly anticipated upgrade.View artist impression.

In 2006, when project ownership responsibilities were transferred to the Department of Public Works (DPW), the Department started work on continuing the goal of completing the extensive project by the end of 2008.

In maintaining this goal, DPW were recently approved to complete the $44 Million Stage Two development.

A major driving force behind the continual development of the Gold Coast Centre is the Queensland Government Accommodation Office (QGAO).

Recently closing tender for the Stage Two development, QGAO are now set to announce the winning tender in early November 2007.

With the major works focussed on the extension of the centre’s exhibition halls, the upgrade will allow the Centre to host larger national and international events.

Currently 3000m2 in size, the great hall is about to become 6000m2 and have the ability to host up to 6000 seats.

QGAO and DPW are excited in seeing the completion of this world class facility, as they know it’s an important centre and will host large events and provide increased tourist opportunities.
