Australian manufactured, the Dishlex Global DX450 dishwasher has an AAA water conservation rating (17.6 litres/wash (fast program)), a 3-star energy rating (256 kWh per annum) and up to 12 place settings.
DishlexAustralian manufactured, the two-door frost-free fan-forced refrigerator/freezer has a 530-litre capacity and a 2.5-star energy efficient rating (890 kWh per annum). The fridge is positioned at the kitchen entrance to allow people to easily and safely access food and drinks without having to pass the stove or move in the path of the cook. It is also positioned away from the oven to ensure it is not expending unnecessary energy to remain cool.
Westinghouse | Energy ratingThe kitchen is fitted with a Chubb fire safety blanket and fire extinguisher suitable for use on paper, wood, textile and oil liquid and electrical fires.
The Chef Cooktop uses energy-efficient natural gas and incorporates a flame-safe switch that cuts off gas supply when the flame is accidentally extinguished. The cooktop includes a hotpot stand for safe transfer of hot dishes from the cooktop to the bench.
The gas consumption of the stove and the future gas hot water system is being recorded and compared to electricity to identify cost and energy savings
The Corian integrated Mixa sink with a stainless steel sink base and seamless countertop prevents build-up of common grime and bacteria in internal corners and against the raised edges of standard sinks. The sink comes with a basket waste, reducing the potential for blockages in the sink.
CorianThe kitchen incorporates many Smart Housing design solutions that make it safer, easier to access, environnmentally friendly and cost-efficient. It is purposely designed so that it does not double as a passageway and provides sufficient space between kitchen work surfaces and cupboards to allow safe and efficient movement for people working in the kitchen. Positioning the fridge and pantry at the entrance to the kitchen also allows people to access food and drinks without having to pass the stove or move in the path of the cook, reducing the likelihood of injury.
Cupboard frames feature Duropal High Pressure Laminates (HPL), which resists potential water damage. It also resists heat transfer in the unit surrounding the underbench oven. Kitchen cupboards built with HPL include the dishwasher opening, the cupboard under the kitchen sink and the cupboard housing the instant hot/cold water unit.

The cupboard doors feature Duropal Durodoor with 5mm pencil round-edge detail. Magnetic childproof latches are fitted to some doors to prevent children accessing cupboards containing household cleaning agents, poisons and other harmful products. An additional cupboard with a Tambour door provides closeable storage space to remove clutter from bench tops.

The tiled floor extends under cabinets through to the wall, avoiding the expense of matching tiles if future modification is required.

The mixer tap allows the user to mix hot and cold water to a desired temperature and features clear 'hot' and 'cold' marks to avoid confusing users.
RAM Tapware | Water Services Association of AustraliaGranite used on the pullout workbench provides a durable work surface, while seamless Corian® bench tops integrated with the kitchen sink and splashback provide a hygienic solution for ease of cleaning the bench top. Benches with rounded edges minimise the risk of an injury to a person who may inadvertently bump into the edge of the bench.

The kitchen surfaces are being visually monitored for durability and resilience. Ambient air measurements were taken in the kitchen to measure the level of volatile organic chemicals (VOC's) in the house at the end of construction.
A slide-out half 'Lazy Susan' provides better access for storage and uses all available cupboard space to full advantage.
A clear view from the kitchen to the backyard assists supervision of children.
The pantry, with pullout sliding powder-coated aluminium shelves and pocket retractable slide-away doors, provides easier access for storage and ensures floor space around the pantry is kept clear.

Smoke alarms, which are hardwired into the electric supply cable, are installed in the hallway. Pirelli 'Flamestop' wiring used in the smoke alarms allows the alarms to function in the critical event of a ceiling fire.

The Jade Metallic glass splashback features an attractive, smooth surface that is easier for visually impaired people to see. It is also resistant to heat/flame transfer when cooking with gas.
Spec-Net building indexThe Chef Classic electric element-heated fan-forced oven has a separate grill and a large 82-litre oven. Beside the oven, a hot pot stand assists safe transfer of hot pots from the oven to the benchtop.
Chef appliancesWater flow is being recorded for the total household, the hot water service, black water system (toilets, kitchen area, sewerage), grey water system (laundry, bathrooms) and external reticulation system (gardens, lawns).
Fourteen water turbine transducers are measuring the total amount of water being used throughout the house. These measurements are being applied to calculate the total amount of water being saved through the use of flow control devices and water efficient products.
A Crimsafe sliding security screen ensures the kitchen window can be kept open to catch prevailing breezes while keeping the home secure and free of insects. A powder-coated anodised aluminium window frame requires low maintenance.
CrimsafeThe total electricity use of the dishwasher, clothes washer and the refrigerator is being measured and compared against the manufacturers' specifications and Australian standards to measure performance.
A potential energy saving device, the Zip HydroTap Model ABC 10/30 provides instant boiling water and chilled filtered water. The HydroTap requires two-finger adult operation to access boiling water and features a safety lock that ensures safe use, especially helpful in the presence of children or aged people. The water and energy use of the Zip instant boiling and chilled filtered water tap is being measured for efficiency.
