Overview
The Endeavour Prize Home in the Samford Valley, an example of Smart Housing, was open to the public during February 2003.
The Prize Home showcased many of the benefits of Smart Housing - increased liveability, comfort and peace of mind; lower expenses and maintenance costs; being able to stay in your home longer; helping the environment; and more people interested in your house when it is time to sell.

Some of the features which make this house more liveable, safe, secure and environmentally friendly are:
- simple, logical layout including wide doorways and main hallway for easy access;
- excellent cross-ventilation to help catch the breezes and keep the home cooler;
- wide eaves to create shade and keep the home cooler;
- durable, low maintenance building materials to reduce ongoing costs;
- a well-designed, safe kitchen including a childproof cupboard;
- at least one bathroom that is accessible for people of all abilities; and
- secure, shaded outdoor play areas.
Smart Housing worked with the Endeavour Foundation and the builder, Waratah Colonial Homes, to include some of the principles of Smart Housing into the existing plans for this house.
