The following is a list of projects that have sought to incorporate sustainable housing design by addressing the Smart Housing Design Objectives. The Queensland Department of Public Works does not endorse, recommend or guarantee the work of any of the builders or designers responsible for this work. Neither is it intended as a comprehensive list. The list is provided for those who may wish to enquire further about incorporating ‘Smart Housing’ elements into a house construction project. Other industry professionals may be equally able to work with the elements of Smart Housing.
Research House
The project involves the design, construction and monitoring of a four-bedroom house in Rockhampton in central Queensland, based on the elements of Smart Housing - social, environmental and economic sustainability.
Sustainable Homes
The Sustainable Homes program provides communities throughout Queensland with display homes which incorporate principles of sustainable design. The homes are unique because they provide practical examples of dwellings that aim to meet the triple bottom line concept of sustainability i.e. environmental, social and economic sustainability.
Capricorn Blue
Capricorn Blue is a privately funded holiday resort development situated on the Capricorn Coast and is the first complex of apartments in the State to be designed and built according to the Smart Housing design objectives.
Coomera three-bedroom home
The Coomera home incorporates many Smart Housing design features that make a home more socially, environmentally and economically sustainable.
Springfield Lakes
The Housing Industry Association’s (HIA) GreenSmart Village
at Springfield Lakes showcased three Smart Houses built as a demonstration
and learning site for all aspects of sustainable residential development.
The Green
The Green, a residential caravan park near Brisbane, has been transformed into a sustainable development of cost-efficient kit homes. The Green is located at Greenbank on Brisbane's Southside. The Green is still a construction site all inspections are by appointment only.
