Smart Housing was announced as the winner of the ‘Protecting the Environment’ category at the Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management on 24 November 2004; received a Jury Commendation as the runner-up in the National Awards for the Year of the Built Environment on 23 November 2004; and was awarded a Certificate of Merit in the Media (Public) category of the Queensland Planning Institute of Australia Awards for Excellence in Planning 2004 on 12 November 2004.

Fundamental to the success of this initiative are the partnerships that Smart Housing has established with its stakeholders across both the public and private sectors. It is through these partnerships that we have been able to work collaboratively to build demonstration houses, develop training opportunities, and generate awareness and promotion of sustainable design principles as the way forward to develop sustainable housing and in turn, sustainable communities.

In 2005, the department will play a key role in the roll-out of the Sustainable Homes program, where councils across Queensland will build Smart Houses to demonstrate the lifestyle and investment benefits to home builders and renovators.

The department would like to thank its partners and stakeholders for their expertise, hard work and dedication. We look forward to continued partnerships and success in 2005.
