Resources/Research

The Department of Public Works, along with government, industry and the community, is working towards a healthier and ecologically sustainable built environment.

In achieving this, the Department of Public Works has conducted a number of research projects that specifically focus on emerging issues affecting the built environment. This research includes partnering with the Cooperative Research Centre for Construction Innovation in areas such as business and industry Development, sustainable built assets and the delivery and management of built assets.

In addition, a range of guidelines and educational resources have been produced to assist other government departments and the general public on understanding the challenges faced in an ecologically sustainable built environment.

Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Construction Innovation

A world-class research flagship for the Australian building and construction industry is based in Brisbane, with the Department of Public Works a project partner.

About $60 million will be invested in the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Construction Innovation over seven years, drawn largely from the federal sphere with state government and industry backing.

The CRC program is a federal initiative that provides the business community the opportunity to collaborate with research institutions and undertake research and development relevant to industry needs.

The CRC for Construction Innovation, the only Building and Construction Sector CRC to be selected to date, commenced on 1 July 2001 and combines basic research with strategic research and development in the following three related programs:
